Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty fill gossip magazines daily on their own. Put the two of them together and it's almost like a perfect storm of tabloid fodder. Photos of the two began to appear in the tabloids after Amy's husband Blake Fielder-Civil was arrested in November 2007 for assaulting a bar owner in the West End in 2006 then offering a bribe to the victim to smooth things out. Knowing Amy was going to be spending her first Christmas as a newlywed alone, Pete visited Amy as often as possible. He was fresh out of rehab and told the press that he would help to keep Amy off of drugs during this hard time in her life. The prayers of crack dealers throughout London were answered as Pete and Amy abandoned any attempt at sobriety shortly after Pete made the statement. Bonded by their mutual appreciation of all things related to crack and the packs of reporters that follow them nonstop, Amy and Pete became BFFs almost immediately.

Pete has been seen stumbling outside Amy's apartment many times and during all hours. With every new photo published of Pete leaving Amy's home looking disheveled, the chatter about the two running around behind Blake's back grew louder. Amy's father has stated multiple times that he believes that Pete is scum and even attacked Pete with a guitar in December 2007. While the two keep denying any relationship exists beyond friendship, photos released in May 2008 made that hard to believe. Taken after a party celebrating Pete's release from his latest prison stint, the photos show Amy and Pete kissing each other.

The Winemouse Incident

In an attempt to prove to the world they were upstanding citizens and animal lovers, Pete uploaded two new videos to his YouTube account in May 2008. Dubbed "The Winemouse Incident", the videos show Pete and Amy together with newborn mice.

Blake Fights Back

Meanwhile, Amy's husband Blake was hearing the news of the late night partying going on with Amy and Pete while he was in jail. He realized that his fellow inmates might be good for more than smuggling black tar heroin for him and interviewed potential hit men. He wanted someone to hurt Pete Doherty and would pay £20,000 for their time. Fortunately for Pete, Blake spoke to a prisoner named Richard Lyttle that was behind bars for allegedly arranging another contract killing. On June 16, 2008, Lyttle offered up the details of their potential contract when he testified in the contract killing trial he was arrested for the first place. Blake is still behind bars and waiting to be sentenced on the first two charges he plead guilty to while not knowing if this latest testimony against him will keep him in prison for even longer.
