When Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton got themselves arrested in high profile cases, many wondered which celebrity party girl would be next. Lindsay rose to the occasion and went above and beyond what anyone expected of the next major party girl scandal by being arrested two separate times.

First Arrest

Lindsay's first arrest happened just months after her first trip to rehab in January 2007. In the late night of May 26, 2007, Lindsay was driving around Los Angeles in her infamous Mercedes Benz convertible. She lost control of her car and swerved up onto a curb. When police went to locate the wrecked vehicle, there was more for Lindsay to worry about than the damage to her car. She had fled the scene of the accident in the totaled car and was found at a nearby emergency room. In the vehicle she'd left outside, police found what they consider to be a usable amount of cocaine but what probably is nothing but a bump to most celebrities. After being treated for for her injuries, she was immediately taken to the police station and cited for driving under the influence of alcohol. Lindsay and her agents realized that she should check into rehab immediately. 2 days after the accident, she headed to Promises Treatment Center in nearby Malibu. After her 45 day stay in the center, she again had to turn herself into the Los Angeles Police Department to be fingerprinted, photographed, and properly booked. Seeing as she is a celebrity, Lindsay made it out of jail by being released on her own recognizance and seemed to be doing well. She voluntarily wore a SCRAM bracelet, which would monitor the alcohol content in her blood at all times and report to the police if she was under the influence.

Second Arrest

Her clean and sober trip life outside rehab didn't last long. Just 4 days after she was arraigned and released from rehab, a call came into 911 from her then-assistant's mother Michelle Peck. According to the police report, she was being chased by Lindsay in a car she hijacked from a group of boys at a party. Tracie Rice, Lindsay's assistant until earlier that day, decided to quit and Lindsay refused to accept her resignation. Lindsay found a group of boys at a house party and took their white GMC SUV, popular for chases of any kind in the celebrity world, to try to talk Tracie into un-resigning. When the cops finally confronted Lindsay and Michelle fighting in a Santa Monica parking lot, they tried to get Lindsay to submit to a breathalyzer test. She flat out refused but said yes to the sobriety tests given on the scene. She failed miserably and when finally tested back at the police station, her blood alcohol was almost double the legal limit. She was arrested and when she was searched, the cops found cocaine. Her excuse? It was someone else's pants and therefore it was someone else's cocaine. While it sounded like a reasonable excuse for someone as drunk as Lindsay was, the police felt their best bet was to book her on felony transport of cocaine as well as felony possesion of a narcotic. She was also charged with driving while license was suspended and driving while under the influence of many substances. After posting $25,000 bond, she was released for the time and the SCRAM bracelet was removed because it somehow missed reporting back on the massive amounts of cocaine and alcohol she had in her system.

Plea Bargain

For both incidents, Lindsay agreed to take a plea instead of risking her time with a judge or jury. She received a sentence that detailed Lindsay serving one day in jail and 10 days community service. She is on probation for a maximum of three years. Lohan was also ordered to complete an 18-month alcohol education program, which was not to include the time she completed as an inpatient, and also told she would pay fines totaling thousands of dollars. She also had to take part in a "scared straight" type program for drunk drivers where those who are convicted of DWI crimes have to visit a morgue where the mangled people on the tables are really dead plus speak with families who have lost loved ones to drunk drivers.

Serving Hard Time

Linsday reported for her day in jail on November 15, 2007 at the Lynwood jail; the same jail that Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, and Keifer Sutherland all spent time in for intoxicated while driving charges. Due to overcrowding and the media circus the incarceration was creating, Lindsay was held a total of 84 minutes before being released.
