The Original Danity Kane Line Up

When does Diddy call enough, enough? You’d think after two failed attempts at creating a band with his MTV produced show “Making The Band” he’d just give up. But apparently after enough seasons and attempts he was finally able to make it big. And make it big he did with the band Danity Kane. Danity Kane was the brain child of Comb’s reality show “Making the Band 3” founded in 2004. The band line up at the time consisted of Aundrea Fimbres, Dawn Richards, Shannon Bex, the hands down star of the group Aubrey O’Day and Wanita “D Woods” Woodgette. The band shot to fame with the songs “Show Stopper” and “Ride for You” from their self titled debut album. All seemed well in Danity Kane land until during the season finale of “Making the Band 4”,on October 14, 2008 when Diddy revealed that Aubrey and D Woods were no longer members of the group.

So What Really Happened?

Rumors abounded from the day the girls made their first performance about whether or not the band would last, given the fact that they were created solely for reality television, the fact that Diddy was in charge of everything and owned the girls hook line and sinker but they persevered and proved everyone wrong at the beginning.

From the start, Aubrey O’Day had been billed as the stand out star of the group. The girl had it all, looks, big boobs, the ability to sing (at least they say she can sing) and she could shake it like no tomorrow. The other girls really had no choice but to stand in her shadow. Despite all the rumors of an imminent break up, it wasn’t until 2008 with Making the Band 4 that tensions began to rise in the band. Aubrey can’t really be blamed for wanting to create an image separate from the group but Papa Diddy didn’t like that at all and tried to bring the girl down by telling her on national television that, “She used to be one of the best dancers in the group, that she was now the worst” and that “she was no longer anything like the girl he had originally signed, that the fame had gone to her head”. Diddy felt that Aubrey was trying to separate herself from the group and rise at his and the group's expense by dressing provocatively and as he put it “wearing big hair”. Apparently Diddy will create you, but the moment you try to make more of yourself he’ll shut you down.

Diddy has always been known for his greed and the lack of respect he shows others. Come on with an ego as large as his, it’s surprising that Kanye West can breathe. Combs also pitted the girls against each other when he chose to use Dawn Richards on three demos for his new album despite billing it as Danity Kane backing him. Rumors had been flying that Dawn was being groomed to launch a solo career through Diddy’s production company and that she was having secret meetings with the boss and flying everywhere at his expensive. Diddy did his part to downplay these allegations.

Unfortunately for Diddy, he chose not to be as involved in the group as he could have been, and while guessing there were internal problems he didn’t really know what was going on with the girls. Both Aubrey and Dawn came to Diddy and told him that the girls all had trust issues with management and each other, but rather than acting to fix these problems Diddy had other plans.

On October 14, 2008 on the season finale of MtB4, Diddy announced that Aubrey and D Woods were no longer members of Danity Kane. He stated that he chose to remove D Woods because he felt that she was unhappy with the group and that she had gotten caught in the “wrath” of Aubrey. However, unlike Aubrey, Diddy stated he would be open to working with D Woods again in the future. All Diddy had to say to Aubrey was that once again she was not the girl he had originally signed, that the fame had created a different girl and that she needed to “humble” herself.

Miss O’Day appears to be a woman of few words when it comes to getting kicked out of the group Danity Kane. While group founder Diddy may have been a dick giving her what he felt to be needed advice,

“	“Check this out, baby girl," Diddy said. "See, your attitude is gonna have you in a dark and lonely place. ... What you need to do, at the end of the day, is humble yourself. "I got love for Aubrey. I don't have any beef with her," he added. "I just want to work with the young lady that I signed, not the person that fame has made her."	„

All that Aubrey had in reply was put together rather short and sweetly during an interview with MTV news VJ Sway, "I would rather be hated every damn day of my life for being real than loved for being something I'm not." Her short and rambling reaction indicates that she may have been silenced by a Non-Disclosure Agreement from Bad Boy Entertainment, Diddy's record label. From what was shown of Aubrey on Making the Band, she is not a woman of few words and liked to politely, but firmly speak her mind.

Not that Miss Aubrey really has anything to be worried about. She just made her Broadway debut in the musical Hairspray, posed for magazines such as Complex and Blender, is working on her solo debut slated for release in 2009 and most recently posed for Playboy.

"I don't think any of us has been happy for a long time," states D. Woods when asked about her dismissial from the group Danity Kane. While it’s not quite clear why Woods got the boot, it is rumored to be because she got to caught up in her friendship with Diddy's not so favorite girl Aubrey O’Day. While she has remained tip lipped on the spilt, Woods is more than happy to discuss her current projects, working with her sister Shanell in the group the Girls Club, and working on tracks for her possible upcoming solo album. She has also done two photo spreads with Kings magazine.

Where is Danity Kane headed?

While Diddy has not confirmed nor denied whether or not he will be seeking replacements for Aubrey O'Day and D. Woods, it has been confirmed by MTV Studios that there will be yet another upcoming season of Making the Band

The band minus the two girls Diddy cut fly performed 3 times in November 2008, first at the JET Mirage Nightclub in Las Vegas, followed by performances at Suite 181 and The Crib, located in San Francisco. An interesting piece of information is that Aubrey O'Day also performed the same night as Danity Kane did Vegas and both sang songs by the group.
