The Bidding War
Even before the two babies that seemed to be sent as a gift to celebrity magazine publishers straight from Heaven were born, the big celebrity magazines all wanted to make an offer on the first photos of the babies. The cover of People magazine with the first photos of Shiloh Jolie-Pitt sold over 2.2 million copies. But many of the other magazines were tapped out from paying for photos of other minor celebrity babies and with the twins receiving the attention they did, it would take someone with a deep pocketbook to cover the cost of the photos.
People Magazine stepped up the plate again by offering an estimated $14 million US for the exclusive rights to the photos and agreeing to share the rights, plus the costs, with worldwide celebrity magazine Hello. People would have the rights to the US market while Hello would have rights to the rest of the world. The money, just as in the first photo bidding war over the images of Shiloh, would all be donated to charity.
Finally They Appear
Trying to capitalize on as much of their multimillion dollar investment as possible, People decided to release the cover photo from the upcoming issue on Sunday August 3, 2008. The cover photo, as seen above, shows Brad and Angelina with the two most talked about babies in the world. There is a photo of the previous People cover girl and big sister Shiloh Jolie-Pitt holding Vivienne. As a teaser to the 19 page photo spread and interviews with both of the superstar parents, people released a small portion of their exclusive interview.
