Jamie Lynn Spears, an actress and musician, was born April 4, 1991. She is the younger sister of pop star Britney Spears.
Career
A mirror image of her uber famous big sister Britney Spears, many wondered if Jamie Lynn would follow in footsteps by entering the entertainment industry. That question was answered as the then 10 year old began appearing in some of her sister's projects. She first appeared in a Total Request Live special for Britney called Total Britney Live. She next made an appearance in one of Britney's Pepsi commercials. She even had a role playing the younger version of her sister's character in the 2002 movie Crossroads.
It was later in 2002 that Jamie Lynn would get her big break. She was cast on the hit Nickelodeon tween variety show All That. She was the youngest cast member ever and the network took advantage of her famous sibling when first promoting Jamie Lynn's addition to the cast. But once the 10 year old began working on the show, she tried to distance herself from Britney in order to establish her own career. She played a variety of characters, as the show is a variety skit show, and was immediately one of the fan favorites. She was a natural when it came to comedy and the character she created for her audition, an 84 year old bitchy security guard named Thelma Stump, became her most popular act. Her costars adored the younger star and admired her willingness to participate in the most disgusting skits known as On Air Dares.
After 3 years on All That, Jamie Lynn was offered the chance to star in a new show that Nickelodeon felt was perfect for the tween. On January 25, 2005, Jamie Lynn appeared as Zoey Brooks in the debut episode of Zoey 101. The debut episode was a huge success and the show drew in the highest number of tween/teens than any other premiere on Nickelodeon in the network's history. The show was about a teenage girl who was the first to be admitted to a former all boys school and her adventures living in a dorm, making new friends, and growing up away from home. The show was nominated for an Emmy in 2005 for Outstanding Children's Program and more seasons were ordered into production. Jamie Lynn won her first award for the role at the Nickelodeon Kid's Choice Awards for Favorite TV Actress. She also sings the theme song for the show, "Follow Me", which appears on the Zoey 101 soundtrack and was co-written by her sister Britney Spears. The show, which is a ratings superstar, just began its fourth season on January 27, 2008 but its future is unknown due to Jamie's pregnancy. Nickelodeon released the following statement after Jamie's pregnancy was made public: "We respect Jamie Lynn's decision to take responsibility in this sensitive and personal situation. We know this is a very difficult time for her and her family, and our primary concern right now is for Jamie Lynn's well being."
Personal Life
Jamie Lynn is the youngest child of Jamie and Lynn Spears and was born on April 4, 1991 in Kentwood, Louisiana. She has two older siblings, a brother named Ryan and her famous older sister Britney Spears. Before beginning her career, Jamie lived in Kentwood except when traveling to spend time on the road with her sister. She did move to New York City, New York at one point with her mother to support her sister's career. Once she was in junior high, she was enrolled in Parklane Academy in Mississippi and made the cheerleading squad before her career began to take off. Between gymnastics and softball, Jamie Lynn was an active and popular student at Parklane. But as her own career went into overdrive, she decided to continue her education with Parklane via correspondence courses.
On December 18, 2007 OK! Magazine exclusively reported that Jamie Lynn was twelve weeks pregnant with the child of her boyfriend of over two years, Casey Aldridge. Rumors were circulating about the child star but it wasn't confirmed until Jamie Lynn and her mother decided to grant the exclusive interview to OK!. Jamie Lynn has stated the father of the child is 100% Casey's child, a 19 year old pipe layer from her hometown.
The media and public reaction ranged from support to outrage. Many questioned the parenting skills of her parents, Jamie and Lynne Spears, as they've had trouble in the past with her older sister Britney and their decision to let Jamie Lynn's boyfriend sleep over at their home unsupervised. Pro-life and religious groups applauded her decision to go public with the situation and her decision to not terminate the pregnancy. Children's rights groups questioned if statutory rape had occurred due to the age difference between Jamie and her pipe laying boyfriend. But in California, it's legal to have sex with someone under the age of 18 as long as the adult is not more than three years older than their partner. Casey Alderidge's birthday is April 29, 1989 which puts him at just over 2 years older than Jamie Lynn.
After the announcement about her pregnancy, Jamie Lynn has only appeared a handful times out in public. She was photographed holding hands with Casey outside of a restaurant in Kentwood and leaving a GED study/prep class. It is rumored that her mother has the child in hiding in order to attempt to avoid the media circus that surrounds Britney.
