Career
Early Work
Signing with Ford Models at age three, Lohan eventually landed a Toys R’ Us campaign where she appeared in more than one hundred print advertisements for the company. She auditioned for and won a role in a Duncan Hines commercial. Lohan went on to appear in almost sixty commercials, including a Jell-O commercial with Bill Cosby. In 1996, Lohan acted on the soap opera Another World, which she left when she was cast as twins in the Disney remake of The Parent Trap. She went on to star in yet another extremely successful Disney remake in 2003, Freaky Friday with Jaime Lee Curtis. In 2004, Lohan starred in Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, completing her three-picture deal with Disney.
Mean Girls and Beyond
Lohan’s biggest commercial success was most definitely her role in the comedy Mean Girls in 2005. The film cemented Lohan’s role as the teen queen of films. The film was written by Tina Fey of Saturday Night Live, and Lohan went on to host an episode of SNL. After Mean Girls Lohan starred in an array of modestly successful films: Herbie: Fully Loaded, Just My Luck, A Prairie Home Companion, Bobby and Georgia Rule.
Music
Lohan has performed on many of the soundtracks of her Disney films, and has released two studio albums so far: Speak and A Little More Personal (Raw). Her first album was certified platinum but her second album failed to reach that level of success. Lohan is planning a third album to be released sometime in 2008 and has been working with producers such as 50 Cent.
Personal Life
Childhood
Lindsay Lohan was born in the Woodlawn section of the Bronx to former Rockette Dina Lohan and former actor Michael Lohan. She grew up on the Merrick area of Long Island. She has three younger siblings, a sister, Aliana, and two brothers, Michael and Dakota. Lohan attended public school for most of her childhood, finishing her studies at home when her career became more successful.
Lohan’s parents were successful but had a troubled marriage. Her father in particular has had a difficult past. Her mother, Dina, was a Wall Street analyst before becoming her daughter’s manager. Her father inherited his family’s pasta business and then became a securities trader. He served four years in prison in the 1980s and early 90s for securities fraud. He went back to prison for almost two years beginning in 2005, for “aggravated unlicensed driving” and assault. In December 2005, Michael and Dina Lohan legally separated, finally divorcing in 2007.
Car Crashes
Lindsay Lohan’s first car crash occurred when she rear-ended a vehicle driven by Eddie Pamilton on August 3, 2004. Pamilton and his companion, Ilex Harris, sued Lohan for damages the following February, saying they had suffered pain after the accident. On October 4, 2005, Lohan crashed her black Mercedes-Benz into the passenger side of a Chevrolet Astro van, which was turning in front of her. The van went on to hit a parked car. An unidentified female passenger of Lohan’s car and the driver of the van suffered moderate injuries and were treated at the hospital. Apparently, paparazzi had been following Lohan all day. After the crash, it was reported that Lohan exited the vehicle and ran immediately into a thrift store to hide from photographers. On May 31, 2005, a member of the paparazzi rear-ended Lohan’s vehicle and was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. This incident resulted in California enacting a law wherein paparazzi are held liable for triple damages to any injured victims. On November 7, 2005, Lohan had yet another run-in with paparazzi, when she was rear-ended again. The incident was not reported, and Lohan drove away from the scene but soon asked a friend to come pick her up.
Hospital Visits
In October 2004, Lohan was hospitalized for five days at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center while filming Herbie: Fully Loaded. Lohan was “overtired” by filming. In January 2006, Lohan was hospitalized twice – once in London, after cutting herself accidentally with a broken teacup, and once in Miami, after suffering an asthma attack. In July 2006 Lohan was rushed to the hospital again while filming ‘’Georgia Rule’’ with Jane Fonda, citing “overheating and dehydration” as the reasons. She had been filming for twelve hour days in 105 degree weather, according to her publicist, Leslie Sloane Zelnick. However, Lohan’s hospital stay did not go over well with the studio. CEO of Morgan Creek Productions James G. Robinson wrote a letter to Lohan and everyone involved on the film. In the scathing screed, Robinson accused Lohan of showing up late to the set, showing up late and acting like a spoiled child, “alienating many co-workers and endangering the quality of this picture.” He claimed that Lohan’s actions had resulted in “hundreds of thousands of dollars of damages.” He claimed that the studio would no longer accept “bogus excuses” for Lohan’s absences from the set, because her “hard partying” was to blame for these, not heat exhaustion or other injuries.
In September, 2006, Lohan was hospitalized yet again for fracturing her wrist in two places.
Rehab
On January 17, 2007, Lindsay Lohan entered rehab at the Wonderland Center in the Laurel Canyon area of Los Angeles. Lohan issued a statement through her publicist, saying "I have made a proactive decision to take care of my personal health. I appreciate your well-wishes and ask that you please respect my privacy at this time." She also admitted to having attended Alcoholics Anonymous meetings before her 30-day stint in rehab. During her tenure at Wonderland, Lohan was often photographed outside the facility, taking extended breaks for shopping and eating out. She claims she “felt safe” at the facility, without paparazzi following her twenty-four hours a day.
It wasn’t long before Lohan was getting into trouble again, and she reentered rehab in May of 2007. She completed an intensive 45-day-treatment at the Promises Center, leaving the facility on Friday the 13th.
Lohan entered rehab for a third time in 2007 in a facility in Sundance, Utah.
Arrests
On May 26, 2007, Lohan was arrested for driving under the influence after losing control of her car and striking a curb. The officers also reported finding a “useable” amount of cocaine in the vehicle. Lohan reentered rehab a mere two days after this event.
On July 24, 2007, Lohan was again arrested for misdemeanor driving under the influence with a suspended license and felony possession of an illegal substance, cocaine. Lohan claimed the drugs were not hers, although officers stated the cocaine was discovered in her pocket in the police station.
The circumstances of Lohan’s arrest were bizarre. Police received a terrified 911 call from Lohan’s former assistant’s mother, claiming that the actress was chasing her in an SUV. Lohan’s assistant had quit just hours earlier. Officers found Lohan and the other driver involved in a “heated debate” when they arrived on the scene. It was determined that Lohan was driving under the influence, and she was taken into custody. Lohan was released on $25,000 bail.
On August 23, 2007, Lohan reached a plea deal which required her to spend one day in jail, serve 10 days of community service, complete a drug treatment program, serve 36 months probation, complete an 18-month alcohol education program, pay fines and complete a three-day county coroner program which involves visiting a morgue and speaking to victims of drunk drivers. Upon her sentencing, Lohan issued the statement that “It is clear to me that my life has become completely unmanageable because I am addicted to alcohol and drugs.”
Relationships
Lindsay has a sordid history of relationships and flings and become known around Hollywood as a "maneater". She has a rumored history with such celebrities as Jared Leto, Aaron Carter, Wilmer Valderrama, Harry Morton, Calum Best, Adrian Grenier, Jude Law and many others. She also has a rumored history with bisexuality and has been seen spending most of her time with celebrity DJ Samantha Ronson. Photos have surfaced of the two holding hands, playfully kissing one another and cuddling, yet the pair refuses to confirm or deny any formal relationship. On Sept 20th, 2008, Samantha Ronson was a call-in guest on the LA Radio show 'Loveline'. She passed the phone to Lohan who was asked by host 'Stryker' "So, you two have been together for a while now. How long have you two been going out? 1 year? 2 years? 5 months?". Lohan's response was a laugh, followed by "A long...a very long time."
