Southern belle Reese Witherspoon is an American actress.

Career

In 1991, Witherspoon won the lead role in the film The Man in the Moon after attending an open casting call with a group of friends. This led to roles in television and film, including Fear, Cruel Intentions, Pleasantville, Sweet Home Alabama and Walk the Line, for which she received an Academy Award for best actress.

Personal Life

Witherspoon married costar Ryan Phillipe in 1999. She first met him when he crashed her 21st birthday party, introducing herself with the line “I think you’re my birthday present.”

Phillipe and Witherspoon have two children: a daughter, Ava and a son, Deacon. After seven years together, the couple separated in October 2006, amid rumors that Witherspoon’s rising star and Phillipe’s wavering fidelity were the reasons for the split. Witherspoon filed for divorce a month later. The divorce was finalized in June 2008. Witherspoon has recently been romantically linked to her Rendition costar Jake Gyllenhaal. Phillipe says that seeing the two together has been difficult for him. "It's bizarre. There's plenty of times when I say, 'What a strange situation I've found myself in,' " he said. "But at a certain point you know it's going to happen, so you are prepared." He also said he avoids looking at pics of the couple together.
